Lystek is commercializing advanced biosolids processing technologies for processing biosolids produced by municipal wastewater treatment plants and other similar organic waste materials from the industrial, commercial and agricultural sectors. Biosolids products are pathogen-free and nutrient-rich fertilizers exceeding the definition for United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Class A Biosolids. Lystek biosolids fertilizer has been registered by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
The core Lystek technology is an innovative, energy-efficient and cost-effective process involving a combination of heat, alkali, and high shear mixing to produces a high-solid pathogen-free high-nutrient fertilizer value liquid biosolid product. One of the most important benefits of the Lystek process is associated with a breakthrough discovery to create a stable high solid and low viscosity liquid material even at a solids concentration of 20-25%. The processed biosolids can be transported and land applied using conventional liquid handling equipment.
The Lystek process can effectively treat thickened or dewatered raw or digested sludges. The Lystek System not only reduces the odours in biosolids but also modifies the odour to an "earthy aroma". Reduced and less offensive odours greatly enhance the public's acceptance.
Recycling of Lystek processed biosolids improves anaerobic digester performance and significantly enhances methane production for further utilization as biofuel. Integrated Lystek system, biological nutrient removal system (BNR) and anaerobic digester approach can result in net volumetric sludge reduction of as much as 50%, and improves denitrification and phosphorous removal process at a wastewater treatment plant.
Lystek is developing novel dry biosolids fertilizer product formulation applications on agriculture fields and reclamation of lands contaminated with mine tailings and waste.
