Lystek System at the City of Guelph Wastewater Treatment Plant
In 2002, the City of Guelph entered into an agreement with Lystek to implement a demonstration project at its wastewater treatment plant. This project was designed to showcase the technology and assess its potential for a full-scale, commercial application at the facility. The demonstration project successfully met and exceeded all of the objectives specified in the agreement and, today, the Lystek facility is operating at full scale at the City.

Lystek System at the Town of St Marys Wastewater Treatment Plant
In 2006, a pilot study was initiated jointly by Lystek, Conestoga Rovers & Associates and the University of Western Ontario at the St. Marys WWTP to demonstrate a unique, fully integrated approach for plant optimization using Lystek technology, BNR and anaerobic digestion systems. The pilot study exceeded the specified performance objectives and concluded that this approach has the potential to reduce net disposal volumes by as much as 75%, in a fully optimized plant. Studies also confirmed that recycling Lystek-processed biosolids to the anaerobic digesters can potentially increase methane by greater than 50% and that the Lystek material is an excellent source of readily biodegradable carbon for increased methane production. It was additionally concluded that this approach is capable of significantly improving effluent quality well beyond any (anticipated) future, provincial standards. The combined BNR/Lystek strategy increased storage capacity from 60 to 300 days with no need to expand the Plant's existing storage facility requirements. Based on the successful feasibility studies conducted during the pilot period, the Town implemented an advanced approach to biosolids management at its WWTP, featuring Lystek technology.
